Cosmetic gynecology is experiencing a surge in popularity as women increasingly turn to surgical and non-surgical treatments to address concerns related to their genital appearance and functionality.
Now, research published by the Aesthetics Surgery Journal suggests that cosmetic gynecology procedures like labiaplasty and vaginal rejuvenation can significantly improve women’s body image and sexual satisfaction.1
The study evaluates how labiaplasty, clitoral hood reduction, and aesthetic vaginal tightening (perineoplasty and vaginoplasty) affect genital self-image and sexual satisfaction in women undergoing female genital plastic/cosmetic surgery (FGPS).
In this prospective cohort study, 120 participants were assessed at baseline, then again at 6 months, 12 months, and 24 months after undergoing the procedure.
The results were analyzed in comparison to a control group, carefully selected to match the participants in terms of key demographic factors, allowing for more accurate conclusions about the long-term effects of the treatment.
Women who underwent the surgeries reported notable gains in both their genital self-esteem and sexual satisfaction. These improvements were not only observed immediately following the procedures but also remained consistent throughout the 24-month follow-up period.
Many participants expressed feeling more confident about the appearance of their genitalia, which, in turn, enhanced their sexual pleasure and overall intimate experiences.
By addressing both functional and aesthetic concerns, cosmetic gynecology ensures that women can enjoy a more active and comfortable lifestyle, promoting their long-term well-being and confidence.
